ooooh you big show off you ;) Well done though, it is very unusual to get an offer without interview at Durham, you must have done a really good application there!
I never applied to Durham, just because it was further away than I was willing to go. I wanted to be able to visit my family/friends in the holidays without it costing about £100 each trip!!
I actually thought burneybannerman's idea about a year out was not a bad one, have you thought about that at all?
I was originally going to have a gap year - say this time last year i was adament on it, but since i started visiting universities (So far i've seen Cardiff, Oxford, Leeds, Durham, Bristol, Newcastle, Birmingham and Reading) I decided i really couldn't wait another year to get started. I could really see myself at uni. And as my mates e.g. Gid, Alex, Tom, Munch etc are at uni there and i know they're loving it, i wanna start too :)
Yeah, Durham's distance is one of the main aspects against it for me too.
Depending on the league tables yeah it's in the top 5 i think, and it just so happens to be number 1 in the country for geog, which miiiiight be what i want to study ;) *smug look at Bristol* Your loss!!
(I am still gutted about it though, but this has definately boost my confidence!)
Congratulations, you must have impressed them. Sounds like a good uni, not too sure on the social life though, its worth asking around to find someone who has been/is there. The only drawbacks I can think of are the freezing cold and distance. Have you been there to visit?
And I agree with everyone about screwing Bristol, not sure if its true but I've heard that some places reject you if you didn't put them as first choice because they have so many people applying.
They don't know whether they're your first choice or you last. They also dont know where else you've applied to. I'm positive Bristol only rejected me on grounds i'vr already discussed.
Yup, went to visit Durham this summer, i was worried about the night life there too, and i only know ONE other person there, a friend's sister. So i might ask her. I AM worried about the distance though Gid said not to, he was well proud of me too :) I don't know wot i want to do - I think i'll wait to hear from Reading and then look at all either 4 or 5 (if Reading make me an offer) universities and compare exactly wot i want, what they offer, where they are etc. And then decide. Because at the moment I'm not more passionate about one than any other. They're all really good unis though. But i'm especially chuffed about Durham ;)
Ok, the system has changed since my day :) They did know where you had placed them then
The distance only matters if you are likely to be broke, and have broke friends you'd like to see fairly often. Some people are really indpendant and don't go home much, others do Christmas, Easter, summer and maybe a couple of reading weeks in Autumn and Spring terms (=500 quid, ouch). Some people just start a new life and get a completely new circle of friends. It depends on the type of person you are really (and whether you can hold those local boys off until then :) )
Lol! I would like to come home fairly often. I mean, if i'd gone to Bristol i'd've probably come home twice a term, if other people were there too. Like, although i'll obviously make new friends as my mates at uni are doing atm, i dont want to lose touch with people like Gid and i would still like to see them more frequently than just the ends of term. Hmm.
