[party post]

On July 4th, there is another wanderer community event for the first time since March when a bomber nearly killed everyone that attended but instead killed two people who chose to sacrifice themselves so the rest could live. These two people were friends of many including Martha Jones, but it is important to move forward and not let grief stop them ( Read more... )

Veronica isn't sure why she came. Big group events aren't exactly her thing. But she finds herself here, anyway, in hopes of making catching a break and taking a breather from the information dumping she's been on the receiving end of.

She doesn't stick to anyone as she arrives, watching as everyone disperses to all corners of the compass. She walks around for a few minutes, taking in the sights, before finding herself gravitating towards the carousel. She stands, watching it, as it goes round and round. She remembers her mother used to take her to one when she was younger. It's one of the few happy memories Veronica allows herself to keep about her mother. Maybe she wasn't as selfish as Veronica, and Lianne herself, sometimes made her out to be.

She doesn't have plans to hop onto any of the rides, much less the carousel, but she's content to people-watch and get out in the sun and see what these people - these Wanderers - did. She stays standing by the carousel, watching it as it goes round and round.

If you're paying attention, Veronica, you might hear the flutter of wings behind you. If not, Cas is going to stand there and stare at the carousel for a moment. This is his first trip to an amusement park of any kind, so he was still trying to figure out what the rides were for.

"This is a very strange form of entertainment."

He's aware he will probably startle the person next to him, but he is used to that at this point.

:') this is a beautiful day! moveuranus July 4 2011, 09:05:19 UTC
And startle he does. Veronica jumps and turns to look at him, her eyes narrowed to berate the person for sneaking up on her like that. She'll chastise herself later for allowing herself to be easily snuck up on.

Looking him up and down, she notices he's wearing a trench coat. Racking her brain, she remembers vaguely of what Shawn told her on her first day. Trench coat. Angel. Possibly strange.

It takes her a moment to even think up an answer for him, her eyebrow quirked as she really didn't think a guy wearing a freaking trench coat would actually be around. "It's entertaining once you get on one. It's not really meant to be watched like a movie."

Castiel's head tips to the side as he considers the ride again. "I have tried partaking in several of these 'rides'. I am still unsure as to what is so enjoyable about them."

They don't move particularly fast, or give any kind of pleasure. At least not that he could feel. Perhaps it was different for humans, but that didn't mean he understood it any more.

"It's the fear factor," she says, though when he tips his head to the side she can't help but look at him funny. He's strange. And the trench coat.

Castiel just needs to let go, is all. Enjoy it for what it is. "It's not for everyone, though. I have a friend who would rather stuff her face with cotton candy than hop onto any of these rides."

"The cotton candy is quite enjoyable." He's had a fair amount since he arrived, and he's still discovering sugar. "I do not believe I have much of a ... fear factor."

"I'm a fan of it myself. Got a flavour that you like?" Though, she hasn't quite gotten into the cotton candy offered at this party. She'll have to search for it a little later. She supposes she can trust the opinion of a ... trenchcoat-wearing angel.

"You don't scare easily?"

"I found both of them to be a similar taste. There wasn't enough of a difference to make a distinction." The only thing that really changed was the color. At least from what Cas's unrefined taste buds could tell.

"No. I do not."

Veronica just stares at him for a moment. "You're kidding, right?" He's articulate, she'll give him that. And rather factual and distant. She's still a bit distracted by his trenchcoat.

She purses her lips. This guy is kind of hard to figure out. "What do you like, then?"

"I actually preferred the taste of the 'funnel cake'," he says with a nod. "Though normally when I do eat food I usually have hamburgers or pie."

Veronica frowns. He's talking as though he doesn't actually eat. But people need things to survive, right? Unless that's his Rift change. "You eat, right?"

He glances over at her, before shaking his head slowly. "I do not require sustenance. My true form has alternate means of producing energy and powering my vessel."

Veronica frowns. "Vessel?" She does not remember reading anything on vessels during her youthful phase of being obsessed with angel lore. Not that she ever predicted she'd be standing next to one - one who wore a trenchcoat, for one - in an alternate Chicago during a party by a carousel. "Being you sounds tough."

He is unsure as to how to respond to that. Because from a human perspective, yes -- being an angel is hard. But from an angelic perspective ... no, from an angelic perspective, being Castiel was still pretty hard.

"I suppose."

Veronica isn't quite sure how to respond. How does one respond to an angel? He's nothing like what she pictured. There's no halo, no wings, no white clothes and hands clasped together as though in prayer. Touched By An Angel hadn't quite prepared her for this.

So Veronica goes with the familiar. Being nosy. "If you're an angel, can't you work some of your angel juice and free yourself from this place?"

He glances over to her, before shrugging. "This is an alternate reality to my own. Creating another rift would only cause damage to the city, and there is no guarantee that it would take me to my reality."

Then he pauses.

"How did you know I was an angel?"
