Music recommendations!

Alright all,

I am seriously jonesing for a new music fix, and I have no leads.

Help!

What is the coolest music you know, that I might not know already?

(Assume that all genres are fair game. Weird stuff is welcome, but so is mainstream, and everything in between.)

um, this might be lame, but if you're looking for upbeat music, i really like Five For Fighting and Lifehouse.

Mamadou Diabate definitely has a nice sound! Thanks for the recommendation.

Baka Beyond I know--very tasty stuff there too.

My favorite band in college was Fleming & John. They put out two albums and then took a break to have a kid. I don't think they ever came back...

Regina Spektor is my new fave.

Oh, and in case you haven't heard, Groove Lilly wrote a musical. (sorry, I don't recall the name)

Thanks!

And actually, they've written at least three, two of which they've made CDs out of. If you haven't heard the album A Little Midsummer Night's Music, you really should--it's from the musical version of Midsummer Night's Dream that they wrote. A lot of it is the actual Shakespeare set to music, with a few original songs to frame the set... really good stuff.

Recently found music for me?

Great Big Sea - Newfie Seafaring Rock

I happen to have some here. But support them by buying records at dredpiratebunny's company.

Zoe Keating - amazing cellist. All natural cello, but using electronics for looping and such. Wonderful.

I have some of her stuff here.

Kelly Joe Phelps - a NY artist (I think) who plays some mean guitar and a funky bluesy tune way. Entertaining, a bit gritty, a bit bluegrassy, a good voice. I don't have any of his stuff yet though.

Those are three new artists in my world.
