I can't get my hands on a copy of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. There are 14 holds on the copy at my library, and it's unobtainable on Link+. I'm trying to catch up on reading for a mock newbery discussion in January, and that's the only book on the list I can't find. What do you think -- Newbery material?

it should definitely be considered, although it does skew to the older end of the newbery criteria. after last year's scrotum flap, ahem, if the choice skews to the conservative i wouldn't be surprised. i really like the way that "absolutely true ..." dealt humorously with issues that could very easily have come across as maudlin and heavy-handed.
if you want, send me your address and i could send you the copy i have, which is an arc i got at book expo. and i look forward to hearing how the mock newbery goes. i've never been involved in one. we are doing a mock caldecott this year, which i feel far less qualified to participate in, given that i rarely get enthusiastic about picture books, but i think it will be fun.
