Oh, no! I hope you can transfer the accredited, er, credits, to another program that will let you finish without extra work. There ought to be a way to keep what you've earned.
I've been looking into it (hence, not on LJ very much.) I am speaking with someone at Simmons next week (here in Boston) ~ on paper, Simmons and URI (my only two close by options) will each take only 6 credit hours, but I would think they must make exceptions for some circumstances. GAH.
They've been on "conditional accreditation" for the last two years and so far haven't managed to fulfill the requirements which means during the next round of review, they will lose their clout with the ALA. While I like that the ALA sets standards that employers generally go along with regarding salaries, I still think they are somewhat militant.
It has been trying for a while now, and my advisor (and the head of the department) don't seem worried and seem quite sure they will lose the conditional status and be just fine but word on the street (other professors and students, who sometimes know more than those with blinders on) say it aint so. As does many a listserv I subscribe to.
