A poem at the end of the year
I'm not going to be 45 much longer, but I saw this Robert Lowell poem yesterday and wished I had known it earlier this year. It's called "Middle Age"
Now the midwinter grind
is on me, New York
drills through my nerves,
as I walk
the chewed-up streets.
At forty-five,
what next, what next?
At every corner,
I meet my Father,
my age, still alive.

2023: This Was the Year that Was
1. What did you do in 2023 that you'd never done before?
My goodness, where to start. I went to Israel and Palestine; I saw the prehistoric Newgrange tomb in Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher, and the Slieve League cliffs (big cliff year); I climbed Black Mountain in Belfast (easy) and Croagh Patrick in Mayo (very much not easy); I went to Quebec City; ( Read more... ) -
Windy
This week started off with a trip to the urgent care clinic after work on Monday because of shoulder pain so intense I couldn't lift my arm.
"I think it's arthritis," I told the doctor, explaining my reasoning.
"No, it's not arthritis," he said. "It's probably a tendon or something. We'll do an x-ray and we can rule out arthritis."

I wonder how long this is going to last
It would be pretty wild if it's geopolitics that finally brings Livejournal to a conclusion. At least it would be a more dramatic ending than what happened to MySpace or Diaryland.
