Foiled again

Well, my latest scheme to get rich didn't pan out either. They were going to give away $100,000 to the winner of the 10 billionth game at my online poker site, so I have been monitoring it closely the last couple of days. Today when the counter was getting really close to 10 billion I made a valiant effort by playing three tables simultaneously, ( Read more... )

The lottery becomes more tempting the more time goes on, but the waste of money with little chance of return is still outweighing the desperation of needing to be free of the shackles of working life.

So you're saying that the only way to financial freedom goes through hard work? How depressing!

I'm not sure I'd say that.. Sounds entirely too much like a WASP philosophy, and I am anything but that. There's always being born into nobility, pure dumb luck, being famous for no particular reason and of course, in another nod to our American friends, suing somebody.

Alas, I don't have much hope of achieving the dream myself.

Congrats no the SPETS role. It sounds like you are uniquely qualified for the job. I saw the wiggles on an episode of "Yes Dear" once. Thats my only exposure (I think they hit it big after my kids were beyond their target demographic). As I recall, one of them has my name. I do much prefer them to Barney. Barney actually reminds me a little of Baby Godzilla.

Yes, there is a Wiggle with your name. He falls asleep all the time.

Barney is evil, though not as evil as the Doodlebops. They give me nightmares.

I'm a big fan of the True Game. Although sometimes Tepper gets a bit preachy, all 9 books are worth the read. It is interesting to see each perspective of that world, Peter's, Mavin's and Jinian's. I might have to reread them again now that you have mentioned it.

I noticed that there are a bunch of more books set in the True Game world, but I'm not sure how they relate to each other. Are the Mavin books prequels? And where do the Jinian (the name rings a bell, but I can't quite place it) books fit in?

You are correct that the Mavin books are prequels. The Jinian books overlap with Peter's books and give a little background to some of the events as well as some follow-up that gives the entire series a more well-rounded tale.
