Monday afternoon update

Greetings readers. It's time, once again, for your Monday afternoon update.

I'm having a good time in the new band. I recorded a really bad tape of our last practice, so I could memorize the changes. I used a little tape player that I bought in high school, and let me tell you, the sound quality is sub-par. It's good enough for me, though! But not ( Read more... )

Maybe, rather than looking to stifle your creativity out of a sense of jealousy, the problem your (probably saintly) roommates have is the incredibly poor quality of the recording, the fact that it is in real time (including 'stand around tuning' noise), and the fact that the bloody marys had yet to be made when you were playing it in a crowded kitchen?

Just a guess.

Yes, anonymous, that could indeed be the case. I, however, am more inclined to take the view that my roommate's base natures are the root of the problem. Complex, subtle music may simply be beyond them! Certainly, were one to turn on, for instance, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club", they become nervous and shifty, and don't seem to know how to respond to the music.

I could be taking this the wrong way... but are you comparing our brand of "complex, subtle music" to The Beatles?

Also, never in all the time i've been trying to be a musician have I thought anyone would describe our stuff as subtle. Never.

AWESOME.

Ben,

I'm perfectly happy getting up at 5am every morning. I work at at 6am, shower, eat, enjoy a cup of coffee, read e-mails and get to work on my thesis around 9:30am.

I've managed to write one chapter and nearly finish another chapters of the darn thing in the past two weeks.

I may be a little nutty but unproductive I am not.

Love,
Rachel
