Marybeth managed to slip away from her father at some point and go 'sploring. Apparently she had inherited his genes, since she ended up at Zoe's office.

"Hi!" she waved, entering the room and smiling at the pretty lady behind the desk. She noticed the kids coloring and waved to them.

Both Grace and Rowan looked up and waved back. Rowan might have been a little more enthusiastic about his greeting.

"Hi," Zoe said cautiously. She hadn't been called Mommy yet, so that was a good sign. "Can I help you?"

"I'm 'sploring," Marybeth explained importantly. "This is where my mommy and daddy met!"

"You mean here at the school? That's so sweet," Zoe replied. "What's your name?"

"Marybeth Lillian Mitchell," she said, grinning.

Cameron was flailing. He'd looked away for half a second and Marybeth had been gone. Veronica would kill him if he lost their kid.

Good thing they shared the same genes as he headed in the direction of the principal's office and heard Marybeth talking.

"Beth!" he said, both relieved and a bit frustrated. "You shouldn't wander off like that!" Then he noticed Zoe. "Uh, good day, ma'am. Sorry about this."

"Oh, it's all right. I could use the distraction," she said to Cameron, before smiling at Marybeth. "Is this your daddy?" she asked, sounding far too amused.

"Uh huh," Marybeth said proudly, grabbing her daddy's hand. "My mommy isn't here, though. She's working a case."

"Exams," Cameron mouthed, not wanting to say that out loud so he wouldn't confuse Marybeth.

"She's talking about Veronica Mars," he explained further.

"Aaah," Zoe said, nodding to both of those statements. "I remember your mommy. She was a very smart lady."

"Uh huh and I'm gonna be a 'vestigator just like her when I get big!" Marybeth said. "'Cept I'm gonna fly planes like my daddy, too! And he let me fly ALL BY MYSELF this morning!"

"He did?" Zoe said, giving Cameron a bemused look. "You must be awfully good to fly by yourself. Either that, or your father's crazy."

Cameron frowned. "It was in the flight sim, ma'am," he said, trying to sound all responsible as he had a kid to take care of now. "But I think she got the pilot genes."

"I understand that," Zoe said, glancing at Rowan. "Those are some mighty powerful genes."

Marybeth bounced a little. "What's your name?" she asked Zoe. "Are you in charge?"

"I'm Zoe Washburn," she replied. "And yes, I'm in charge. I'm the principal here."
