Dear all.

Friends,

It has been a very long time since I updated this. I was amazed that I hadn't forgotten my LJ password. I have been busily, and happily, married. Busier and happier than I have ever been in my whole life. This is what I have been up to.

I am, as you might know, back in Mechanical Engineering at UMBC. The detour of my life that was my ( Read more... )

I'm so, so envious of your South Bend.
One of the groovy things about lathes is their ability to make other lathes.

the price and size might be prohibitive for some... bilal February 19 2006, 00:50:37 UTC
While South Bends are beautiful, smooth, well-made machines, I have seen some people do amazing things with the small Chinese lathes, of which I have an example (my Grizzly 7x12). The initial cost outlay of a well-maintained, fully accessorized South Bend is prohibitive for some, and a Chinese mini-lathe offers a nice alternative, if one does mostly hobby work (the ways are NOT hardened!) and has limited space.

Both my lathes sit side by side with my Kennedy machinist cabinet between them.

I just got an AXA-size quick-change toolpost set. When Russ Wood lets me use his milling machine, and when I have time, I'll mill the bevel onto the toolpost so I can use it on the South Bend. That will be VERY NICE! I have to use the lantern-style toolposts these days.

Hi! caffeine_girl February 24 2006, 16:38:52 UTC
So glad you are back, even if it's just for one post. Congratulations on being married!

I am interested in your business, it sounds cool. Do you have any of it online yet? I am looking for a baby wrap for the summer. There are some beautiful Indian gauze fabrics at my local fabric store, but if you have something suitable and would be willing to mail it out...

Hi Sarah!

I was just telling Saima after writing my last post, that last year, the last time I wrote an entry in livejournal, you weren't even pregnant. And now you have a daughter! You still managed to keep a very nice update on your progress!

About the shawls, we have a website, but no pictures online yet. The reason being, that we have many designs, and only a few shawls of each design. This means that if all shawls of one design sell out in a flea market, we won't be able to fill internet orders of that design. Needless to say, we are still learning how to run this business and will order many, many more of our popular designs this summer when we go to India to visit the family.

I think the smaller size of shawl might work perfectly as a baby wrap. The size is 178 cm x 48 cm. E-mail me your address at sbhassan AT comcast DOT net, and we'll discuss particulars :-) I'll show you the designs we have in the small size.

P.S: Saima wants to see baby pictures!
