I Just Got A TEXT from Brother--THANK THE POWERS!!!

Sep 03, 2010 23:34

Just a moment ago the cell phone (which has been glued to me all day) buzzed with a text--Dale is out, awake and doing well---and here's the BEST PART--they decided to try to get in through the side of his head, going through the ear. That means he lost the inner ear and will not recover his hearing on that side--BUT they didn't have to drill big ( Read more... )

I knew the surgeon was an answered prayer--Dr. Holladay is one of the world's authorities on that type of rare prenatal tumor (yes, he's had it since he was in the womb--it just began to grow dangerously large in the past year) and no doubt Bro is going to end up in some medical journals. Not having to whack open the front of his skull means a faster recovery, less trauma and everything better all the way around.
....I may actually sleep tonight!!

Thanks! It was genius to think of going through the ear to get the tumor---lose the hearing but save the life. Easy choice.

We will miss you at AWA but we will be there next year and probably Teapriestess, Gothiphine and I will have some music to share and do a gig---this year we get to go to the final Yaoi After Dark!

*hugs* I'm very glad you finally got the news, moreover that it's happy news! :) *more hugs* It sucks that you had to wait to find, but better late than never, I suppose. I'm glad you found out before you lost a night of sleep over it. I'm so happy for you that he's okay.

Thanks--I found out on FB from a long time friend of our family--my brother's closest friend, who posted to me that he'd found out hours before that Dale was okay...I'm grateful to hm and to everybody here who has put up with my whining and emo-ing and ranting and anger...quite embarassing...but the only thing that matters is Dale made it and even has his skull intact! I probably still won't sleep much...but that's okay...I'll just work on Half Lives Chapter 17...

That's so wonderful! The loss of hearing in one ear seems so trivial compared to what could've happened.

(I wonder if it wasn't his wife who blocked you from his FB page. That woman seems to give a new definition to petty.)

Oh, you are so right. About 8 years ago they told me they would have to destroy most of the sight in my right eye to save the eye itself--using a laser scalpel to stop a hemorrage. I said, "Are you kidding me?? Fire it up and let's go!" In six months (yeah, a car accident and quite a few falls later, teehee) my left eye became dominant and I adapted and only occasionally notice that I do not have full binocular vision. Dale will adapt--he has been tortured by tintinitis and humming--now it's blissfully quiet inside his head.

As for my sister n law...that's childish and cruel. And with forgiveness---I forgive up to a point...and it takes a hell of a lot to reach that point. She's passed it.
