Looking at photos of oneself can be excruciating. You're too fat, you have a terrible facial expression, you look tired, you look old, awful haircut, bad situation...for whatever reason it can be a painful process. That is, until you come across those photos that capture a moment or feeling ( Read more... )

I know, I do feel like its one of those 'forces of nature' type connections...except I have to object to the San Mig Lights, I was a Pale Pilsen girl all the way - bugger the calories!!!

A Buddhist would say that photos are a bad thing - trying to encapsulate a moment in a two dimensional piece of paper. But a moment does not exist once it passes.

Hard for me to always internalize because I am a novice photographer. I am always out to capture things that the eyes cannot see. Sometimes it works.

I DO sometimes wonder about the dangers of photography. They say that our generation (or generations but as a young one I'm prepared to be kind!!!)is more inclined to false memory because of early childhood photos that get confused with ACTUAL memory. I'm quite a reasonable photographer but hopeless at actually taking them because I always think the 'photo-taking' spoils the moment. I'm glad others do though, because seeing records of those moments is always priceless

Yeah, I sometimes get caught up in the mechanics of trying to make the shot and loose sight of what it is I am shooting! Always good to take in the big picture - pardon the pun.

There's nothing like a good bit of nostalgia every now and then. Isn't that what lj is all about? Reflecting on your past. You get a different perspective when you do that and those photos probably make you happier when look at them than you consciously were at Bohol/Laguna. It's nice to know what a good time you had in retrospect. It's particularly potent looking at photos when you were OS. For me at least, there is such joy in travelling and learning about unexpected details. Lucky you.:o)

Yes, I'm definitely a rose-coloured glasses girl! On the downside (for friends and family at home at least), these photos give me terribly itchy feet.

What a delightful sentiment. I know I rarely "look good" in photos (I'm usually laughing with mouth wide open or talking to the camera person) and the photos I take aren't full of artistic merit (thumb prints anyone?) yet the photo, the memory of the 'occasion' is precious and therefore the photo is precious.
I have a terrible memory of events and being a depressive type will focus on bad things. Having photos depicting good times gives me hope and rememberence that a black period will pass and there will be more delightful photos at some point.
