This misuse of a veterinarian is even less tenable given that Beth is one. Makes you realize who was really taking care of Willy The Small Black Spaniel™, doesn't it?
We know who was taking care of Willy. Lynn practically told us in these Notes:
Tuesday, January 14, 2014 Lynn's Comments:
I am guilty of letting my dog run about without a leash. We live in the country and our little black spaniel, Willy, was free to go where he pleased--which was usually next door to my in-laws' for toast and coffee. The neighbours didn't say anything--for the most part they let their pets out as well. It wasn't until the school bus nearly ran over Willy that I paid more attention. He died of cancer years later, but I never forgot his close call.
Lynn thinks that the purpose of neutering pets is to avenge herself on evil, conflict causing men:
For years, when we lived in the far north, I worked with my sister-in-law as her veterinary assistant, and neutering pets was something we did often. It’s much faster and easier to neuter a male than a female, and when we were at work, the guys gave us a wide berth.
Is this a new story from Lynn? As I recall, Beth's veterinary practice was in her home. The Cruikshank farm was in Miami, MB. According to Google Maps, it takes over 12 hours to drive from Lynn Lake to Miami.
It occurs to me that they had Sera spayed in January, about a month or two after she had pups. Clearly they were of the mind that the Pattersons were not going to control either April or Farley, so they had no choice.

Would love to get a fact-check from Beth, but we know she was retconned to having been lost in the divorce.

It seems that everyone assumes this. It's why Connie ended up as Martian Wrangler.

It is kind of funny that Connie was given that task, considering she is possibly the only worse parent in the comic strip than Elly and John.
