The one where they insist on thinking of Edgar as a man in a suit.
Synopsis: After April gets a non-answer about neutering Edgar, John reminds us that he's as stupid about dogs as Elly is about men.
Summary: John's is the non-reasoning that thinks gay marriage leads to marrying a sheep.

We know why Elly shouldn't be near pets or children: she's incapable of understanding any frame of reference that isn't the one she's experiencing at any given moment. We're about to see why John fails: his belief in a bullshit natural order and refusal to grow the Hell up. The same boring psycho who blames Elly's discontent on hormones because he won't admit that it was an unrewarding and essentially unavailing pain in the ass to try to civilize a surly, greedy and infantile simpleton named John Roderick Patterson doesn't think dogs should be neutered because they weren't when he was a younger version of the douchecanoe he is now.

She is being very careful here not to actually teach her child anything.
And John "wishes" that there was an alternative- why? Is it the money involved in the procedure? A big-screen TV would cost a lot more. Oh, right- it's to set up the lame punchline.

It's why chocolate_frapp thinks she's a god-botherer: knowledge is seen as corrupting. Only as a blank slate can a child be seen as pure.

Old English Sheepdogs can be fixed (neutered) at 18-24 months old to allow for physical maturity. At 9 months Edgar is a little young for this operation. Looking it up, it appears the old recommendation used to be to fix your dog at 6 months, because that was the age where they could impregnate another dog.

This is set years ago and is being done by people with obsolete ideas about everything.

So the Pattersons have gone from people who don't do what they are supposed to do to people who do what they are supposed to do at the wrong time.
"It's too bad there wasn't another way to solve the problem." First, Tense Much? Second, this sounds like talking for the sake of talking. Why do you want another solution, John? Getting fixed is safe and better for the dog in pretty much all respects. Again, is it because you don't want to spend any money at all on your dog? Well, a chain is cheaper if you don't care about having a miserable dog. That's "another solution." Seriously, what is wrong with you?

What's wrong with him is that he identifies too much with the dog. The idea seems to be once they fix the pooch, it's his turn next.
