I was thinking more along the lines of what happened when Elly tried hosting a New Year's Eve party thirteen years ago: 1) John warns Elly he ain't a social lion:
I can understand that. My son would do similar kinds of things when he was younger and he typically ended up breaking something. Slamming the bedroom door may feel good, but not so good if the bedroom door no longer shuts.
We see several strips in which Elly gets a cold splash of water to the face, seeing how her behavior is harming her children. We never see her adjust that behavior in response. Ever.
Also, one must remember something that comes into play when Liz wants very much to be told that she did nothing wrong: Elly's refusal to own up to any responsibility for the clusterfuck that makes Liz hate camping:
Finally, Liz grew up in an unhealthy environment surrounded by thin-skinned idiots who lose their temper over trivial things and allow the Law Of Fecal Gravity full play:

I thought John farted in that last strip.
Elly doesn't want to know if something's wrong out of concern. She just wants an excuse to tell Liz to knock it off.

Second strip: Absolutely Fabulous did the same joke better.
Third strip: Kill Bill did the same joke better.
Fourth strip: Blair Witch Project...well, you get the idea.
Fifth strip: Elly's got the Fiddler on the Roof rag on again.
Sixth strip: "Mighty fine"? why does this guy talk like he's in some old western?
Ninth strip: The only way to fight is to repeatedly say you don't care??

1) Lynn is not a very good storyteller.
2) She has a tin ear for dialog.
3) Elly thinks he's saying that he loves her anger because she's not to blame for this mess.

Liz has stink lines coming off of her again! Maybe she can't take a shower because April used up all the hot water?
