If I Ran The World

Train travel, it used to be on the same par as air travel. It used to be elegant, beautiful and, above all, a privelege. Then the rot that was Beeching and privitaisaton set in and we're all reduced to riding the equivilant of a moving rubbish bin. And that's if they decide to turn up at all. I gave up caring a long time ago when I heard the ( Read more... )

godamn that sux! The only train I remember being on was in Italy and that was nice as Hell!

one thing you said reminded me of when I was flying back to the Navy base from my vacation. I had gotten so piss drunk the night before my flight, that I was still drunk the next morning. I was apparently quite upset about going back so I was crying and carrying on in my seat, so that I had an entire row all to myself the entire flight. haha

Glaring. Seriously, if you're not in a crying mood, it seems to work. Or maybe it's just because I'm blasting out my music at about a million decibels. ;)

what? you have 'quiet zones' on your trains? How the hell do they police that?!

I'm imagining an army of angry librarians shushing everyone.

They let the little old dears and their crossword magazines police it. Honestly, it's like the moving, rattling version of my store. The entire carriage is little old ladies. And the other day, when I was forced into the "quiet zone" there was some little old dear winding wool around her husband's hands. 0_0 Which is why I like going in there with my MP3 player and noisy snacks. ;D

I just loooove train travel - long distance trains, that is. They're unbelievably expensive, but there's nothing like a window seat in a lonely compartment at five a.m. approaching the coast - and my hysterical mother who lives there. The train offers the last calm minutes before the ultimate family madness - and a chance to cool down on my way back home. I think I got a picture of that mood - I'll see if I can find it for you.....
