I'm glad you did not have to use the holy hand grenade on the cat. Ew. Messy.

I bet the parents would feel better if you set up regular forms of contact (dinners or weekly outings) with them. I think independence is good and I think you're more likely to thrive in your own environment. I also think you should get a good long distance phone plan though so you can call me frequently to tell me how you are doing. Cuz I love you, brother, and if I can help in any way, just ask.

I pretty much agree with your assessment. In fact, I suggested that they boot your ass to the curb with a "Sayonara, sucker!" But that suggestion was declined.

I found that I didn't really start to thrive until I learned how to believe (like, in my guts, to be sure) that I'd be ok on my own.

I think you'll be ok.
