i spent a good five minutes of my life today arguing with a coworker that catholics are also considered christians. this, then, got me spending the rest of the day trying to find out what easter means to me, which also got me thinking about the general idea of religion, the many types of religion, and how it can be so creepy. is there a religion ( Read more... )

"celebrating the self and the "new life" one can have by doing good to oneself and to others"

i think that's what being a christian is about...and we remember to celebrate new life every time the priest consecrates the communion...they're like real life symbols (or actual proof) that remind us that we should work on being better people. I mean even though the christian faith doesn't proclaim the actual words "celebrate the self" (or whatever) doesn't mean it disregards God's want for us to happy or proud of ourselves for improvement. I guess no matter what religion you go to...there are always interpretations of "faith"....it's the religions with no interpretations allowed where i would be really creeped out.

yeah fo sho. but there a lot of religions out there that emphasize that without god, jesus, or whatever idol, we'd face hell or would be lost in this world. like, my mom forced me to go to church on good friday and the priest was like, "love is not a feeling, or an emotion. love is god." and i was just like "wuhhh?". some religions may use symbolisms or interpretations to get people to do good, but why?? why do i need to go as far as to even take communion, or kiss the cross on good friday, or all the other physicalities to remind myself that i can do something good? i think there are those out there that don't need god or any affiliation with anything god-like/spiritual to reach self-fulfillment or to have morality or to be capable of love.

well the thing is you DONT NEED or even HAVE to do any of those things to make you feel fulfilled and anyone who tells you otherwise really doesn't understand that they just can't force someone to feel something....i think communion and those other acts of faith are tangible processes that show how something in history (of the religion) was portrayed....and like kissing the cross...well that's up to the person....and i think the point of praying to God is choosing to believe in this spiritual higher being to confide in when there's no one else to go to....that's how I see him or her

sorry...im bored!
what you doin saturday?
