Sorry, this is a really confusing post

I don’t really understand what happened when I had my little boy.  No one really explained anything to me whilst it was going on, and to this day, six months on, I haven’t got a clue really why it all went the way it did.

I went into labour on the 16th May this year, and I had an emergency C-Section on the 23rd of May.  Throughout this whole ( Read more... )

Thanks, I was thinking about seeing my notes, but because my memory about it is all so patchy I didnt really know if I was justified or not, Im glad others feel like I am though :)

And yeah, Im from the UK, before I went into this hospital, Id heard horror stories, but my best friends mum works there, and is actually one of the head midwives, so I thought Id be ok. Unfortunatly, she was away having an operation herself on the week I was in there, but I did notice whenever I said 'Do you know Cheryl' to the doctors and midwives, they'd stopped being so rude.

Im definatly going to ask if I can see my notes, I think not only to understand what went on, but because I dont even remember half of it. Sometimes bits come back to me when I dont expect it and I start having panic attacks.

yeah, I was really hoping that writing all this down would help, but I dont think it has, sometimes stuff comes back to me when Im washing up or something and it just stops me in my tracks and I dont know what to think. My friend had told me that when she was pregnant there is no way she'd ever have her baby in the leicester royal because it was so bad, she actually said to me that she'd walk out of there with the baby dangling in between her legs LOL, which was charming!

Im going to ring my doctors tomorrow and ask about getting my notes and Im going to definatly look into VBAC as much as I can. I really dont think I could ever have a c section again. I know Id definatly prefer a home birth next time. At least this groups given me a tiny bit of hope that that may be possible :)

And thanks for the baby-related compliment, I also think he's a cutie :D

I'm so sorry you had such a terrible experience.

As far as the doctor's comment about ripping your womb, I would suggest requesting your surgical records. The doctor probably meant he cut your womb (necessary in a C-section to get the baby out). A lot of health care providers do not like to let women have a vaginal birth after a C-section because there is a small risk the womb is weakened by the cut and may not be able to withstand the contractions. There are lots of women, though, that go on to have one or more vaginal births after a C-section without any problems.

Just do a google search of the term "VBAC" which stands for vaginal birth after Cesarean and you can find lots of information on it. If you need more information, just let me know. I'm planning a VBAC for my next birth.

I read up about VBAC whilst I was pregnant, and because I thought it was the norm now to have one, I assumed when the doctor told me point blank that I 'couldnt' that there must have been more to mine.

If I can have one naturally, that would be amazing, just the sort of hope I need, because I want a big family and I dont think I can go through another C Section.

How awful! I'm so sorry.

I don't know what drugs they're likely to start out with where you are but in the US I've seen mostly morphine used to help women in long labors sleep.

I don't have a clue what the doctor meant about "ripping" your uterus. Sounds suspect to me. You should get copies of your medical records so you can try to figure out what he meant. Also it would be interesting to know why they didn't treat your infection. There are certain antibiotics they give in labor for GBS+ women so I don't know why they wouldn't treat you. Also if they catheterized you (ouch, I hated that!) your bladder should not have been obstructing the baby's progress, so perhaps that wasn't the actual reason for the c-section. I hope you find out more information when you look at your records.

God, dont get me started on the catheters, one doctor did it wrong and it was agony and I was screaming the place down. On a ward, with other pregnant women listening in, I actually feel bad for them, lol, because they must have been v scared hearing all I was going through. There was a really nice lady though, she gave me a mars bar and tried to keep an eye out for me ( ... )

Oh good, Im so glad other people have had this said to them too but still have hope, I know my partner and my mother think its mad, but I REALLY want to have at least one of my children naturally, its a huge part of being a woman and mother and I already feel cheated out of it with my sons birth.
