i had a lot of problems doing this tut, and im using psp7. you say paste new image a lot, and you might mean layer? i'm not sure. can you look through it to make sure, and if you edit it lemme know? cuz i'd lovvvvve to be able to do this!

in step 2 you create a threshold image of the original image. You want this, but not right away. So if you copy it and paste it as a new image you can have it on your screen ready to go for step 3 when you put it into "layer 3". In step two you are making the image, putting it to the side, and deleting it from the original work. in step three you are taking the image you set aside and putting it back into the original work. Does this make sense? Where else did I say to "paste as new image"?

ahhh ok, now it makes sense. i guess i wasnt thinking about it like that. what i wound up doing was after pasting it as a new image (and since it was named layer 2) i worked off of the new thing altogether. it sorta looked like yours, but not exactly. i still need to figure out the coloring things in part, but now i understand better what was meant. sorry if i seem like a dumbass haha.

This was a tad difficult to translate into Photoshop, but do able, I had a hard time finding a picture that worked well. But after like 6 tries here's what I came up with:
