Gray days and steps forward
Today, the sun fought the rain and lost. The day was gray, the sort of windy day where the air constantly carries the scent of rain. Today, from 8:30 to 9:30, we participated in "Earth Hour" I know the criticisms of the event - that it's mere symbolism, that just turning off the lights for an hour does not cause a significant environmental impact and does nothing to fight climate change. A bathroom escape
Today, I managed to get locked inside a bathroom stall. I'm still not sure how it happened, and have concluded that the metal lock and door frame mutated while i was in there. My supervisor informed me that our top intern candidate has accepted our position. Now, the real battle begins - the quest to have enough projects lined up to keep her entertained, and to ensure she has a workspace that is not a glorified storage closet. Staking territory in Cubicle City, Israeli settler style
As part of my new role as demi-god in the Intern Selection Pantheon, I went on a scouting mission to locate empty cubicles for our interns. This proved to be more difficult than expected. A case of the Mondays
Mondays at work tend to be bad days. The combination of returning to Cubicle City after a weekend to face 40+ hours of computer screens and phone calls results in the crystallization of a mass of vague, creeping discontent. True love? Part of me still cringes every time I admit it, but yes, I do. I don't believe in the fairy-tale, prince (or financier) ,sweep you off your feet, serenade you and somehow turn your life into romantic comedy sort of love. Age is a number, but 25 is one of those numbers society tends to notice. It does seem somewhat arbitrary - why should a quarter century matter any more or less than than the years preceding or following it?
