You'll be okay. Remember that the characters in Lost in Translation didn't seem to make an effort to understand, instead spending their whole type making fun of Engrish.

Where in China are you going? I'd write more, but I have to run right now.

That's true...I'll make more of an effort.
We're going to Nanjing, Beijing, Xian, Yangzhou, Suzhou, and Shanghai. We'll be spending most of the time in Nanjing because that's where the university is located--I'm going on one of those college trip thingies where you have to take classes too.

Well, especially since this is a school related thing, you'll be fine. Don't worry. I'm sure the other kids will be eager to interact with the visiting foreign students and whatnot ( ... )

are there personal reasons for your non-fan-of-china status, or is it just a general thing?

everyone sooner or later thinks they are the only one who's suffering and everyone else has it easy. it's when they discover just how bad the next person's trouble is, then they realise they're just the same.

then you realise your life is worth more than others who have it worse

- try being in a police lock-up for a few hours and meeting the other people in there who will be going to jail for years - with you who will be released in a few hours to go back doing what you always can do while they will have years of their life just wasted away in prison

keep in mind not everyone is guilty who goes to jail. sometimes it's being in the wrong place at the wrong time, false accusations, etc...
