All it took was the threat of someone else (the Federal government) making the decisions and the city/union managed to reach an agreement.

51 days.

The world has changed a lot in that time.

It is a cold day in Ottawa as the busless steets are swept with a -40 windchill.

The house is quiet, aside from the hum of my computers and the radio bringing me the news of the world.

My employer has filed for bankruptcy.

There is much speculation that tommorrow may be an interesting day for me.

( in that old "may you live in interesting times"-curse sort of way )

The city's offer/demand has been rejected by the union membership by a 2:1 margin, a noman's land that might harden both sides' positions.

The first full workweek of the year begins with no resolution in the month-old bus strike in sight. My range of movement is effectively reduced to walking distance ... and getting to work is a brisk 3 hour walk in the summer. As of five minutes ago, the city bus strike is officially a reality. It has cost me more to set up the ability to work from home than I spend for a full-year pass (not to mention all the grey hairs from getting all the VPN stuff working - what a mess of hoops).
