Background:
This source chronicles the manga chapters, which is the medium Izumo is taken from. As may have been brought up before, the anime and manga worlds tend to be drastically different.
Here is a more character-centric source and details the world better, though I'm hesitant to include it, considering it incorporates much of the anime canon.
From where the summaries leave off: Yukio fights Saburouta Toudou, the man whose idea it was to summon the Impure King. Izumo and Shiemi watch over Bon's father, sick on the ground and about to die, as Bon and Rin go towards the Impure King to defeat it and Konekomaru and Shima look for a way to help. Bon sets up a barrier to protect against the King, and the others (including Izumo and Shiemi) are attacked anew.
Izumo is taken from the end of chapter 30, in the midst of hopefully being rescued by Shiemi from a certain Impure King's... whatever the heck it is that's got her.
Personality: What most people think of when they think of Izumo and her personality is "tsundere." Cold, often hostile, condescending and haughty, she can come off quite the stuck-up little bitch. However it becomes quite clear quite early in canon that that's not the only layer Izumo has. Ever since she was a child, Izumo has had her mashou, a "spirit wound" that allows one to see demons; while canon hasn't yet revealed how she got it, it seems as if it wasn't the best experience. (Canon hints at a traumatic attack, and if the anime holds any clues towards the manga's revelations, there might have been family death involved.) A young Izumo would often react in terror to seeing demons that no one else could, so the other children alienated her. Thus from an early age, Izumo has been quite the jaded lone wolf, covering her loneliness with a prickly demeanor, caring for no one but herself.
However, it changed when Paku came along--Paku, the first friend Izumo ever had, and her only one for a very long time. Also, the only one Izumo will actually admit to being friends with. Canon shows that even towards Paku at first, Izumo was quite the tsun; but years later in adolescence, the two are inseparable. It seems that Izumo places Paku on a sort of pedestal and sees her as the only exception in a world full of people who are vicious and backstabbing; through Paku we see how incredibly loyal and protective Izumo can be. It's also revealed that she can get quite clingy, openly to Paku and less openly to others who become important to her along the way (though she'd never admit it), and how though she'd like to pretend she's invincible and untouchable, she is quite capable of guilt and remorse--on occasion--just a little too proud to admit it. Paku seems to be Izumo's exception to everything, the single window through which Izumo's soft, vulnerable side is shown obviously. To anyone else these weaknesses and insecurities are a guarded secret, evident only to the scrutinizing observer.
Izumo is very stubborn; she will believe what she wants to believe and stand by what she wants to stand by, no matter what. She can be hotheaded on occasion, blunt, frank, and offensive, blurting out whatever comes to mind with no filter towards her peers, though she holds her tongue around people she respects as authority figures. Unlike many hotheads she has little trouble recognizing and accepting said authority figures--perhaps because she realizes that they do indeed have power over her, and that in order to reach her goals, she has to obey them. As of current canon, her goals remain shrouded in mystery, and she is tight-lipped about them, saying that she has never revealed them to anyone. Her goals might have something to do with protecting people she loves, however, if canon events have any sort of sway. Whatever these goals are, Izumo sticks to them like glue--she is incredibly determined when she sets her mind to something, no matter how impossible, even if she is normally very skeptical, cynical, and practical-minded.
She is rather brave, embarking on numerous missions outclassing her rank without showing any real stress; in high-tension situations she tends to be cool and collected, unless she has legitimate emotional investment in the issue. Even if she's the one in danger, she has sense; in the latest chapter, when captured by the Impure King, she tells Shiemi not to worry about her and to get out of there--revealing a caring for Shiemi that's only really been seen indirectly before. This is evidence that she does care for people more than she'd like to admit and is willing to sacrifice much (though her own introspection tells us that she's very confused about this, unwilling to admit these feelings, and unsure why she does these things). Izumo states that she's afraid of nothing--this is likely not true, however, it can be said that she fears little, and does not fear conventional things. Being wary and being afraid are different animals; she is intelligent enough to be wary when she should be, but very rarely afraid. In fact, she's quite intelligent overall, as one of the top students in her class; this likely relates to her mystery-shrouded goals, a stepping stone in which must be becoming an exorcist. She's sharp and observant, and doesn't hesitate to ask questions that are competent and well-worded. She follows rules for the most part--or at least, sees no need to break them without reason.
When dealing with others, Izumo is, as stated, usually very haughty and conceited, with a quick temper. Unless you outright annoy her or catch her in a bad mood, though, she's usually fairly polite and actually agreeable, if clipped and dismissive. She likes very few people, but tolerates many despite complaining endlessly about them; often, even if she complains about someone, she likes them (though admitting it is another animal altogether); she is, as said, blunt and often offensive, usually refraining from sarcastic, caustic remarks in favor of full-frontal insult. (She doesn't play around!) She is unafraid to venture into conflict, as shown by her constant bickering with Bon, and may even be prone to picking fights while under the influence of negative emotions to distract herself; as such she can often be classified as childish or pedantic, though it's noted that when matters are important, she is quite capable of seriousness and maturity. She apparently has very little tolerance for the weak or incompetent, and can be cruel enough to exploit those weaknesses for her own gain--i.e. when using Shiemi almost as a slave (though she did point out that it was Shiemi's choice to do all those things for her). It's probably just easiest to say that if you don't have her respect, she can be quite nasty.
But those who do have her respect, whether she'll admit it or not, are treated to unfailing loyalty and protectiveness--not as openly as her sentiments towards Paku; but the feelings are clear as day in her actions if not her words. She will deny deny deny that anyone (besides Paku) means anything much to her; in canon, when risking much to free Rin from his prison, she states that she was simply following orders--which is true, however, it was more than that. She will nearly always come up with an excuse for any kind action, and a selfish one. One may draw the conclusion that she fears showing compassion or caring for others because she might get hurt. Her particular brand of compassion and caring is quite abrasive, but clearly defined as such; one must listen to her actions instead of her words.
In canon, Izumo describes herself as "a girl with a bad personality who can't stand to lose," and this seems true. However, it would appear as if her "bad personality" is a buffer against getting hurt by people; after all, if she can keep people out, they can't get to her. She trusts few, fewer still openly (possibly only Paku). The statement would also suggest that she has few principles or morals, but that's also not true: she can be quite judgmental of character traits in people, such as cowardice, hypocrisy, incompetence, promise-breaking and prejudice. It should be noted that for the most part these are standards she holds herself to as well; and though she might scold others for having certain qualities she doesn't necessarily hate, even qualities she, too, possesses, there's a clear definition between what really grinds her gears and what she just fusses over to be difficult--such as when she comments without much actual malice that Shiemi is shameless, though she herself tends to be as well. She possesses a (currently inexplicable) fixation with fairness and equality. For example, when finding out that Rin is Satan's son, she is the only one of his classmates who still treats him like a normal person, and she all but calls the others promise-breaking, hypocritical cowards to their faces. In her own abrasive way, she encourages Rin in the face of adversity and expresses support, though she steadfastly denies any such act. In another moment, an anecdote from the anime, she objects to having a birthday party thrown for her because there are others in the class who didn't get such a celebration; the party ends up being thrown for all of them. As displayed, Izumo has no hesitation to stand up for what she believes is right and call someone on their bullshit.
She's had to rely on herself quite a lot in her life, which makes her very self-sufficient; it's also because of this that she tends to put herself first; she takes any opportunity she can to pamper herself, such as taking nearly hour-long baths, or engaging in pastimes such as shopping, reading girls' manga or fashion magazines, listening to music, and collecting figurines--all of which are canon. As such a self-centered person she loves the spotlight, which only boosts her ego; she herself states that she can't stand to lose, so she's very competitive.
She tends to see the world in black and white, with two types of people: the strong and the weak, or the protectors and the protected. As judgmental as she can be, she also tends to sort people into each category; she thinks she can walk all over the "weak," and has admittedly less respect for them even though she seems fonder of them, possibly because she can boss them around. The "strong" she tends to butt heads with--but because of their positions as the "strong" ones she also tends to respect them more. Izumo does not yet understand that there are shades of gray, and people breaking out of these categories she sorts them into (such as Shiemi, one of the "weak," being the one to attempt to save her in the latest chapter) both bewilders her, shocks her, and seems to make her uncomfortable or even angry. She does, after all, hate showing weakness.
Abilities: Izumo is an exorcist-in-training, or Exwire/Esquire. She has the ability to see demons. Other than this her only truly notable ability is her potential as a Tamer, an exorcist class that fights mainly by summoning creatures. This ability is raw, not yet fully developed, and yet she possess the capacity to summon two formidable kitsune minions, called Uke and Mike, and a multitude of their fox kits that are tiny but exceptionally strong. In order to access them, she must have a piece of paper with which to draw the circle to summon them and add her own blood. Summoned creatures are notorious for turning on their masters, should said masters be weaker than they; Izumo has come against this conflict canonly (during a depressed/unsure period where her ferocity was diminished considerably) and bounced back just in time.
