Yeah I gotta say, not attractive... Don't think you'll be getting offers to kiss it better somehow.

Holy crap, that looks painful/unpleasant.
So, what happened at training to result in such an injury?

My ear got pressed to the mat and dragged along?
Someone got me in a tight headlock and my ear got folded over?
Someone accidentally hit me in the ear while going for a move?
any number of variations on the above sorts of things are possible.

The short answer is, I don't know.

A longer answer is that this sort of thing is a bit random, something causes a blood vessel to rupture and a clot to form, which causes the blood to pool up between the skin and the cartilage. Because this doesn't happen straight away, I didn't notice until the next morning.
I've hurt my ears a number of times over the period I've been doing BJJ, and they're usually just a bit tender for the next few days. As a result, whatever caused this just didn't stick in my mind as an important event.

I've had the plastic things and drainage tube removed and it's healing nicely. I'll pop a photo up when I get it off the person who took it.
