"our first grade teacher hated questions." I think that was not a good thing. Seems like it would deter kids from learning.
Toby was forgiving...valued your friendship. Kids are resilient. Just like in your story, it's the parents who don't get along. I'm glad you and Toby worked it out.

Wow, this was one great story. I hit a boy once but it was in the 5th grade. And how amazing that we are alike in the not wanting to be in groups department. Do you still know Toby to this day?

He vanished around the end of fifth grade, then, amazingly, resurfaced again around high school. Still with the glasses.
