He pauses in an aisle, leaning casually against a bookshelf.]

Rather barbaric punishments, don’t you think? First brawling shapeshifters as if they were simply pets, then lashings?

I condone nothing. I would rather he choose another method of punishment - one not so violent, perhaps.

*Sollux is still exhausted, but he can't sit in his room doing nothing forever, so he finds his way to the library. He was going to make a beeline right for the video games, but pauses upon spotting the cat. There seemed to be a lot of those things around here.*

[This one, unlike the large cats of the other shapeshifters, is just a black house cat of unusual size.

Peering at Sollux, the cat hops off the railing and trots towards him. It stops a few feet away and sits blinks, its tail curling around its paws.

It blinks once, then meows in greeting.]

*Which means Sollux, who has only ever seen large cats, thinks its strangely tiny. He watches it until it stops, then raises an eyebrow at the meow.*

*Hey, Alex could talk in cat form and some of those guys look pretty weird. For all he knows this is another person at the keep.*

[The cat twitches its tail and narrows its eyes. It's silent for a few moments, but then its mouth and jaw ripple. Nothing on the outside changes, but there is a visible shifting motion beneath the skin.]

It was a habit to practice any form, every form, and naturally furniture was on Rem's list. There was no better opportunity for espionage than to assume the position of a person's armchair. But though practice was on Rem's list today, espionage was not.
