I love everything you've said here, but here's the thing - I think male PLAYERS are actually somewhat charmed by SHODAN. You and I think she's a cybernetic harpy, since we're women and don't take any of that BS, but I think that kind of breathy-voiced derision is more appealing to males who just love the idea of being ordered around by what's technically the perfect female entity - just psychotic, as you say.

I need to play Portal, don't I?

Yes, yes you do.
See, I do love SHODAN, but she seems to be a study in reverse psychology. She gets you to do what she wants by telling you to do something slightly different, so that you do what she wanted in the first place "just to spite her".
