Gluttony If there was anything Alphonse would accuse Edward of, it was laziness. Reports, books, and clothes sewn all over hotel rooms while he passed out from sleep on the edge of a bed, one arm and leg sliding off the covers in a manner that looked as if he were ready to fall off at any moment, his shirt riding up and his mouth open.
Edward denied the laziness vehemently, because he studies and works and his entire life is now about the Philosopher’s Stone and all that the state military might want out of him- it’s hard work being a Dog of the Military, and it’s even harder when he’s trying to resist the leash at every turn. Alphonse would only take a fondly exasperated tone and agree in a manner that told Edward that he was only agreeing because he didn’t want to argue.
But then there would be times when Alphonse would gently suggest to Edward that he was working too hard, that he needed some time off. And those times Edward would sulk for hours before finally leaving the house to wander around the military base if only because his little brother had forbidden him to do actual studying at the moment.
And somehow he would end up in Colonel Mustang’s office, lounging on the leather couch and complaining as loudly as possible about life in general. Mustang would listen, although he pretended not to because he would make a show of glaring and then inserting earplugs before going back to doodling circles on his reports, and Edward would usually end up asleep in the office until Alphonse came several hours later to find him again.
It was days like that which seemed precious to the teenaged alchemist. He was much calmer than he had been when he had first gotten into a relationship with Roy, and more accepting of the do’s and don’ts of having a relationship as secretive as he had. He never even told Alphonse about it… but then, he never had to with the way his little brother understood so perfectly when Edward just needed the time out at night, the stolen hours when he visited Central.
They even had an unspoken system worked out: Ed would stay at the library just a bit longer than Alphonse, who claimed that he wanted to go back to their dorms early, and then Ed would leave and give up on walking halfway to the dorms.
Roy Mustang would open his door when he hears the doorbell and asks, “What are you doing here, Fullmetal?”
And Edward would explain simply, “Too tired to walk back.”
He would stay the night at the apartment halfway in-between the library and the military dorms, usually sprawled like a cat over a piece of furniture, his excuse for staying over being that he was raiding the Colonel’s library: too lazy to take books back to the dorms.
Alphonse never questioned his dishevelled form in the morning.
After way too long, I am off my ass to finish the goddamned series of drabbles, even if they suck like whoa.
