I am trying to figure out if my ideas are too obscure and difficult to understand. I wrote my story for the creative writing championship and posted it to their forums so that the other competitors could read it and let me know what they think. Of the 4 who have commented, 2 didn't understand it. They liked the scenario and the way it was told, but

Years ago, I used to host a Halloween party every year. In the first hour or so, after it got dark but before people really got much alcohol into their systems, we would sit and take turns reading favorite (or original) poems or short stories with a Halloween-appropriate theme. This makes me want to start doing this again.

I think it's fabulous! Of course, I'm a workaholic anyway. I wonder if the people who don't get it simply can't conceive of giving one's life (and then some) to your work?
