The pigs in a blanket thing is pretty dumb, though my mom- who cooks- does own the mini pie maker. I think it works a little faster and she doesn't own mini-pie plates. And if you only have one oven, it allows you to multitask a little bit better... But most of the individual electrics seem silly.
Your Mom's reasoning on the pie maker sounds a little like the no or reduced kitchen situation and does make sense. Having one or two such gadgets does not make a person inept but the sheere quantity of the more pigs in a blanket-ish ones lead me to believe that the target demographic has many such items in their home.
I'm all for gadgets too, but like blenders and food processors and our stand mixer...oh and the stick blender! My favorite. But not this kind of gadget.
I saw that this weekend as well and thought similarly...*really?* I will defend the iced tea maker though...I love mine, and while I could do a similar task with hot water in a pitcher, then adding ice..since I did not already have said pitcher, getting the iced tea maker was not that much more expensive and since I make iced tea ALL THE TIME, it get s lot of use and is quite convenient. but I would agree, we now have available to us mini appliances for every which task and its pretty absurd!
LOL! I accept your iced tea maker defense. I guess I should ammend my rant to, while we all may have our pet uni-tasking gadget or two, a kitchen full of them would just be silly.
