IKE, FEMA, and a brief update

Sep 15, 2008 05:36

Literally, the last of the laptop juice.
Today I will go to a FEMA POD to get food, ice and water.
We're doing clean up as best we can, but no power means, no power tools. The weather turned cool, which was a great blessing. I haven't heard from my GF since the night the storm passed, but at last account, all were well. It could be today it could be ( Read more... )

I'm so glad that your poor shed and fence got the worst of it!

we're very lucky...If you've seen the news. I know some folks in the Chayon-Ryu family took hard hits.
Jo Brown, A 4th gup in our dojang (my best friend) Lost the roof to her home, then after the hurricane, the next morning, we had a flash flooding thunderstorm pushed in by the cold front that was supposed to arrive two days earlier and push IKE away from us.
She's in bad shape right about now...I got off LUCKY!!!!

If your house is insured, check with the ins company to see if you have coverage for the food spoilage. I don't know if you do or don't...but I've taken enough claims in the past two days to know people are asking for it - and apparently expecting it. (Note - I've taken over 100 claims reports in the past 2 days...most are Ike and Gustav but a couple were car accidents too)

I don't think I'll claim anything on the insurance, since in the past three days, Phil (my brother) and I have managed to clean up the debris, and repair the damages as best we can. The repairs to the shed and fence will hold fine til we can call someone at a later date (like next spring!)due to the emmense gouging that's going on right now.
Also there's no building materials to be had, so it's a good thing he's super bear and I'm super dyke.
We can build a city out of fishing line and talcom powder! ;)

It's the gay gene...
survival is a given by the nature of who we are....making things livable ...that's the gift of the GAY.
I managed to make the yard even better than it was before the storm, and we got all our tree trimming done....and I put up my rope hammock.

So I can't really complain. There are poor folks that lost it all.

I got off LUCKY!
I hope I don't have to live through an event like this again anytime soon.
It was like being stuck inside of a gimoungous washing machine for 12 hours.

Thanks for the concern! It means a
