Laundry Stuff

There is one washer and one dryer being shared amongst 12 apartment tenants. I bought my own compact washer and dryer and put the washer in the bathroom. I figured it would be easiest to hook it up to the sink and drain it in the bathtub. That way I wouldn't have to worry about whether or not the kitchen sink would drain fast enough.

Wow, I'd never seen tiny little dryers like that. It's such a pain not to have your own washer/dryer - I don't blame you for getting your own. It's definitely worth it in the long run.

The dryer sits on a couple of upside down milk crates next to the doorwall, but doesn't actually have to be vented to the outside.

I love the washer, I can wash several things in each load; each cycle can be programmed separately so I can do an extra spin that is at least as good as that of a regular washer for wringing out water.

I do about 3, maybe 4 loads of wash/week and my water bill is maybe $5 higher/month. No significant increase in the electric bill from either machine. Yes definitely worth it.

Excellent! So cool! Yes, so worth not having to lug your laundry somewhere to get it done. I also hate hanging my clothes -- everything being stretched and wrinkly and crunchy.

Fortunately this washer doesn't make clothes crunchy. Not sure how, but it's one of the "features" that made my decision: many people who reviewed it stated such. Unfortunately, my clothes still get stretched. I am still figuring out the dryer, though and it seems that putting only a couple of articles - depending on what they are - and cycling them 3 to 4 times dries them. It does get very hot, thus preventing wrinkling. I can hang some stuff while drying others and then take the hung stuff and put them in the dryer to tighten & dewrinkle.
