I love the nighttime.. the knowledge that as most people sleep, others are active; working, playing.. i always had a feeling when i was little that i was missing out on something.. i'd watch the sky get darker from my window and wonder if some day i'd find out what happened after bed time. i think listening to radio 1 probably fuelled my curiosity

I totally agree with everything you've just said, there's something so special about it all, I think this is why I have trouble giving in and just sleeping at night, it seems like it's too beautiful to be wasted. 'Everything will flow' by Suede sums all this up in my mind.

Motorways at night suck a bit though, but driving through towns/villages/countryside at night is amazing.
Driving back from a gig in Manchester with my housemate drummond a few years ago.. we were driving through these hills and it was completely pitch black. I pulled over at the side of the road and we just walked around a bit, there was no light at all and no people... it was so amazingly peaceful..

A dark and winding road holds excitement and challenge and you feel cocooned and focused.
Approaching a city at night, there is the high-speed of the freeway and the lack of seeming limits. Miles of fast and open road, then the lights become closer, and more intense as you near the outskirts and you feel the excitement of the city diffuse out towards you.
I always like the Queen Elizebeth bridge at night time. I remember the first time I drove across it, it was November 5th, and the who sky was full of blazing fire.
On sea, at night, the phosperesence [The 'unknown fire' as the Japanese call it] flickers on the water, and there's the smell of fresh salt and the crash of the waves and nothing overhead, with no 'light polution' to spoil the stars.
And flying at night over mostly uninhabited areas, like desert or mountain is amazing. But the best part is seeign the dawn sweep across the landscape, as you race the sunrise.

You can never have too much leg room.
Still I imagine myself wanting to do a fear and loathing road trip.

I have a really happy memory of just me and Dad in the car on the way to visit the Grandparents' in Dorset, and we'd been for a cheeseburger. Ultravox's Vienna was playing on the radio and it was so peaceful :) Dad bought me some sweets from the petrol staion and we drove off. I remember a song called 'Living in the Plastic Age' came on too, and I could see all the streetlights disappearing off into the distance, like a line of spaceships coming in to land at a distant city.
Thanks for the CDs as well :)
