I thought the person who answered this post has some very interesting answers about why to keep your toddler rear facing.  I am not sure where they are getting their info or what expertise they have but kind of scary!

s/he listed several sources at the bottom which are reputable, definitely (particularly the aap). thanks for a good reminder of why i'm keeping tristan rear-facing right now, even though it isn't fun for us. :)

Oh ya you are right...very detailed sources.
I was mostly surprised by her detail in this statement:

"A forward-facing child under 2 years old is 4 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a crash than a rear-facing child of the same age. A child's vertabrae do not fully fuse until 3-6 years old, before then, she is at great risk for internal decapitation. The spinal column can stretch up to 2 inches in a crash BUT the spinal cord can only stretch up to 1/4 inch before it snaps and baby is gone."

Makes me kind of want to switch Kaia around....but I think that would be mean at this point. I think we will definitely keep this in mind for Jaeda though! Good job going with your intuition and not just going with what the law says is ok!

Greg's cousin actually is an instructor for car seat safety and installment. I figure if/when it's time for a car seat for me, I'll go shopping with her and have her help me out.
