If you want to cover your bases, sign him up for one of those storage places that has the first month free. Put all his stuff there. Put everything in his name. Call him and let him know about it, email him, and then send him a certified letter advising him of the location.
If he wants to pick up his stuff, he'll need to pay the storage company to go get it. And you'll never need to see his face again.

Putting his stuff into storage sounds like a good idea. I think whatever you decide to do though, you should check that it's okay legally. It would suck if he brought a lawsuit against you.

i have levied some complaints about my roommate (like the fact that he's a "student" but he only has two classes and therefore only leaves the house like 3 times a week and is otherwise usually plopped in front of the tv), however, it now seems that i don't quite have the right to complain about my roommate. Anyway, it looks like you've already done some research into the law, so if it looks like you're actually doing him a favor by not selling all his stuff, then the storage thing sounds like a good idea (but yes, being absolutely sure it's legal is a very good idea).
