Jackets trade pick #19 & the 3rd round pick to Philly for R.J. Umberger & their 4th-round pick.

We're on the clock as of this moment.

ETA: Our first-round pick is Nikita Filatov. Small skill guy, top-ranked European in the draft. Already speaks English, a bonus with Russians.

So does this mean we keep Z?

Filatov is a left wing and Z is a right wing. I'm not sure that this will affect Z at all. It may actually give him a Russian peer on the team and make him want to stay here. But after his hold out a couple of years ago, and the crappy season that followed, I don't think that there are many teams that will clamor to break the bank for him, anyhow. Not short of him suddenly having a season like Gretzky's 1981-82 season. And even then it could be written off as a flash in the pan.

Well yeah, that was my thought, that they'd wanna keep Z around to help with Filly (come on, you just know that's gonna be his nickname). I only ask since he's been mentioned as trade bait (possibly to SJ for Marleau), but I for one don't want to see him go.

I think Z stays but I hope that's not too much for Umberger. I think it's cool that an OSU player comes back here to play though...

I have not looked at the draft board yet but if Schenn and or Pietrangelo were available and they took Filatov I'm going to say one or two cuss words and wait for Howson to back up his decision.

Pietrangelo & Schenn went 4 and 5 respectively.

I think Filatov is going to be great, but he's at least a year away from making the team I think; he looks like he's 12. But I love that he's so gung-ho to come play in North America, moreso than many other Russians over the years.

Ah, then Filatov is a good risk. He does seem eager to play in the NHL. I hope Z does not get traded. They have to find a center who will take a boat load of cash to play here, or overpay Brian Campbell - you know someone is going to do that.

The story is that they're going to move Umberger back to his "natural" centre position.

umberger was on 1460 and said (to paraphrase) he's excited about the opportunity and playing for hitch again.

i still thought it was funny seeing howson get to the podium and say, "first off, we'd like to say hello to our fans at champps at easton"

flashboi24 and i had a papa john's pizza and a couple beers. screw $18 appetizers.
