"Hello, Rahal," she greeted as she walked toward the stables, noting the cavalier's alert look as she approached. "Thanks again for agreeing to teach me."

She was not wearing her usual armor plates, having figured anything that might restrict movement would be a poor idea when learning to mount and ride. She did still wore her reinforced tunic, however, figuring that might still be helpful.

The swordswoman entered the stable, looking around slowly, as she'd never fully been inside, taking in the horses and the equipment. "Goodness, this is a lot of gear."

Rahal laughed quietly at that statement, nodding his head in greeting. "It's not as confusing as it all seems."

He went to the bay and brought it over to her. "This is Charles," he introduced them and handed Chrodechild the reigns. "He's a good boy, I promise. Now, let's see about getting you mounted up."

He instructed her to loop the reins over Charles' neck and then come to the left side of the animal.

"All right. Put your left foot in the stirrup and swing your right leg over to mount," he said. "Always mount from the left."

Chrodechild noted silently that the creatures suddenly seemed much larger up close, but tried to put aside her nervousness. She'd after all had met Flail, and the horse was quite small and gentle in comparison. She approached it. "Hello, Charles," she said, laying one hand on its neck in a sort of pat. She then followed suit with the reins as Rahal instructed her, before preparing to mount.

She tried to follow Rahal's instructions as best she could, putting her left leg in the stirrup, pulling herself up with the help of the horn on the saddle. She hesitated a moment, nearly dropped, but fortunately the bay was patient enough that she could try again without incident, and she get her leg over as she was supposed to.

"This..." she said. "This feels very high."

Rahal chuckled, but not unkindly. He checked the girth a last time to make sure it was secure, then went to the head of the animal, taking hold of the under-strap of the bridal.

"All right, we're going to start at the walk first. Try and move with Charles' gate," he said and clicked his tongue, urging Charles forward.

The horse snorted and took a few steps forward reluctantly at first, then began to walk steadily along with Rahal, head bobbing slightly with each step.

"Can you feel it?" Rahal looked back at Chrodechild. "Front, back, front, back, front," he called out the steps for her.
