This May, my son Nick will go to his senior prom, graduate, decide on a college (he was accepted to three great schools) and turn 18. That's crazy

That sounds like a Mum who cares! Nothing wrong with that.
I hope I can have done as good a job as you appear to have done when my daughter gets to 18. I'm struggling with the room bit too... oi vey.
My Mum was great about me going to College, I hope I can get there with the same attitude. I would hate to wind up some uber-clingy parent who can't let go and wants to be down there every weekend doing offspring's washing.
He sure sounds like a decent guy :) I'm sure he'll go his way.
I think what I appreciated most with my parents is that they were always there, but never clung to me and I'm sure Nick will appreciate this, too. I'm 29 now and my mom is still the first person I call when something either has gone wonderfully right or terribly wrong and I could never imagine to say "I don't need you anymore."
Also, for him it's probably just as scary and new as for you, for me it was (and still is in a way).

Your daughter will still be at home, right? Can't remember which one is older.

It goes by WAY too fast, doesn't it? Can't believe my baby will be 7 this year and is starting 1st grade in the fall. Seems like I just had her!
