CHILDRENS HOSPITAL LOS ANGELES.

:) I can give you as much talk up as you need as to why you should.

and on a less biased note, UCLA's Design for Sharing is also a good cause -- provides arts programs to school-age kids.

Oh! You work at the hospital, don't you? Do you know anything about volunteer opportunities? I'm most interested in something that allows me to work with the children, like recreation therapy or something like it. (I did rec therapy for a couple years in high school.)

I've been meaning to check it out...

Yes, they'd love to have you... We have child life playrooms where they do therapeutic play (and a lot of regular every day play). I did it for a while when we still lived in Hollywood. My commute now makes it a little more difficult...

Do you want me to get some info for you? I work closely with the manager of the program... We also have an artists program, though I don't know if they use volunteers. They have art teachers and musicians come in and give classes to the kids.

That would be so awesome, if you could. Also, if the artists program takes volunteers, I (and others I know) may be interested in that too. Thanks, girl!

that's wonderful of you, girl! if you want to focus on children and global aid, consider savethechildren.org. they're big but they're organized. more importantly, they put more of your dollar toward the cause and less on management than many other charities. whatever you decide, i would check charitywatch.org or charitynavigator.org first to make sure the charity you choose has a good track record.

and also, i recommend checking with family members to see if their companies offer donation-matching if your company doesn't, that way you can double what the charity gets!

I had a feeling you'd have good resources! You never did tell me how the reading program went.

Also, LD has donation-matching, so I may ask her to donate for me.

There are too many good causes. ramahughes September 29 2004, 08:57:55 UTC
I was going to say Amnesty International but I changed my mind; Childrens Hospital Los Angeles sounds great. And you can always help Amnesty International just by writing letters.
