So many good memories are tied to aromas - and many of those are food! Thank you for sharing this one. You really struck gold with the A family!
Date? What date? I'll have to find your previous post.
Also ... Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty men. That film hit me right in the libido, I think. It helps that Joss Whedon's at the helm, so it's not completely moronic. *wants to see again* (For the record, Thor was a fairly pointless film, I have no idea who Capt. America is, and haven't seen IM2. But ... guh.)
You won't find much about the date on here; I've been very circumspect, because I had no idea how it would turn out. It wasn't QUITE a blind date, but close. My mother and her work mates have been trying for AGES to set me up with a Geography prof they know, so we traded a few e-mails and had dinner last week. And it was... good
( ... )
OOOOOO I WANT your strawberry cake... it's not quite peak strawberry-season here yet, but I'll be poised to try out that recipe in a few weeks' time! It sounds delectable. And I am very envious of your stay in France and your exposure to all that wonderful cooking.
*is hungry now*
My late mother-in-law was a superb cook and always put a few strawberries in her legendary rhubarb crumble. Not a combination I would have thought of, but it works brilliantly!
Not sure we've even got the Avengers film this side of the pond yet, but if we have, it has completely passed me by. I have just spent a fabulous fangirly weekend watching nothing but vintage TV from 1972 and know nothing of this Hiddleston of whom you speak...
I hope you enjoy the strawberry cake as much as I did! Well, and others. I've been feeding it to other people, and the responses are universally enthusiastic, so I'd say it's a hit. And strawberry season is only just starting here, so I can't wait to try this with some of the berries from the prime part of the season. Mmmmmm. (And yes, they are lovely with rhubarb as well, so your mother-in-law was clearly a culinary genius.)
I was incredibly lucky to have been placed with the A family, which is even clearer to me now than it was then. France is a wonderful place for food in general, but it does help one's appreciation to be fed by such a wonderful cook every day. (Thank goodness I was walking so much. I still somehow managed to lose weight while I was living there, but that probably wouldn't have happened if Tours had a metro of its own...)
I'd probably rather have the vintage TV! And if you want a goggle at Hiddleston, all you have to do is have a glance at Tumblr, which seems to be in love with him at the moment.
I too am nonplussed by the whole Avengers thing. TBH, I zone out when I see anything on my tumblr dash, or adverts. The characters hold no meaning for me outside of this film. Seeing them run around and being all superhero-ish does nothing for me. I literally fell asleep watching Iron Man because I find fight scenes boring, unengaging. :shrugs:
Um. Yes? ~hides behind hair~ I didn't say much of anything about it, because I was deliberately keeping expectations... kind of nonexistent, actually. Just determined to go out and have a nice meal, and it turned out to be nicer than that, thunderstorm aside, so, um... good. *g*
(It's the geography teacher, because we finally got around to exchanging a few e-mails, and he is really very sweet, and not Howardy at all in some ways, although terribly Howardy in other ways. But in the best possible sense. The solid, steady, reassuring sense. And apparently he cooks and bakes.)
...Anyway, the recipe is good and I hope you enjoy it. And although I enjoyed Iron Man well enough for RDJ's presence, I know exactly what you mean about superhero films in general. They flip an off-switch in my brain somehow. Kind of the way jazz does, now that I think about it...
So out of the loop! Give me an hour or so, and I'll be caught up. First, let me brew some tea... Oh, where are those biscuits? ;)
Success! I knew there'd be some clue as to origins of Sir Cardigan if I went back far enough.
That strawberry crumb cake looks scrumptious! I think I'll try my hand at that for Father's Day. The way you described Madame A's strawberry jam... *wipes droll from keyboard* ... so vivid and gorgeous.
I would just lurve to dine at that fabulous Lebanese restaurant. I have a weakness for Middle Eastern food. Oh, who are we kidding? I have a weakness for all food! :P
When can we get together for our monthly fangirl lunch? Would you be available on Thursday or Friday this week? Would either of those days work out for next week?
Heeee! I hope the tea and biscuits were good. What's a cup of tea without biscuits? ;-)
I might just start calling him Sir Cardigan now, because that is such a fantastic title.
Aw, thank you! Gah, that jam was the stuff of legend. But I think you'll enjoy the strawberry crumb cake, and I think it's a perfect choice for Father's Day! It's a good year for strawberries. Actually, for pretty much everything. Or am I just extra-appreciative lately?
Mmmmmmmm, food! But I think you would like this place; the only downside is that it is very much my side of town, out near Lakeside. But the food is completely delicious--some of the best I've had since the days of La Shish, no question.
I can do Thursday or Friday next week, and would be happy to schedule a fangirl lunch then! Which day is a better bet for you?
