but I think it's great and realistic that she doesn't know how to do absolutely everything that every cop in every different department does. She's a homicide detective, and I like how they acknowledged that it's a different skill-set.
I very much liked this too. Although, her instincts took over at that one point when he was about to shoot Castle and it worked. So, nervous yes, but like you said, in the end she's still badass and can handle it.
he's steering the conversation back to safer territory until she is ready.
It's his way to help her release the tension. He's thanking her in a serious way underneath, but playing it light because wow, what a day they've just had. And she really needs the smile, so he's happy to help.
I love that the end scene included the whole family instead of just Castle and Beckett. It felt very right.
I thought that same thing when I saw it! Despite the promise of the promo pics, I really loved the "family" feel of that scene as much or more than if it were just the two of them.

And to me, this is such a great example of how he's grown up during his time with her but is also still the same delightful and fun-loving person that he's always been, the person who can always make her smile, even in spite of herself. I'm not saying this as clearly as I'd like to because I'm tired, but it made me feel even more than usual (which is a LOT) how exactly right they are for each other.
I'm actually happier that the final scene had the whole family than I would have been if it was just them. Because as much as I love Castle/Beckett scenes, the whole family was involved in the stress and fear of that day, and it seems right that they should all be celebrating life together. It was just wonderful.
yes to it all. Including the bit about the picture of the guy on the phone. I was totally wrong too!
I have to admit, after (what I think) was a very slow start to the season, I'm beginning to enjoy this show again. I'm really not pleased with the season finale from season 3 and how it segued into this season and has been now all-but dropped, but at least there's fun and there's actually a little bit of sizzle happening between Beckett and Castle again. I hadn't seen any since the season began until Cops and Robbers. Makes me squee!
Yay, I'm happy that this episode is bringing back your Castle squee! I'm also super glad to hear that I'm not the only one who confused the two guys

I think it's good that they aren't focusing too much on Beckett's mom's case at the moment just because that keeps things on the angsty side
I would agree there, but I guess the point I feel is that they shouldn't have gone there at all.I don't like what they did with the storyline -- going too serious for a couple of episodes and then poof! like it never happened now, and killing off Montgomery. That dealt a real blow to the show, and the adding of the new captain was extraordinarily predictable and in my opinion, bad storywriting.
I'm actually kind of nervous about it, because I think it's going to be a huge step backward for Castle and Beckett when she finds out that he's keeping this secret from her. I wanted to smack him when he told Martha in Rise, and just say "What the hell are you thinking? She's going to kill you when she finds out!" I at least hope that he tells her before she finds out some other way.I'm with you there too. I HATE to see so much connection between them, to have them so close and have her nearly

I'm totally with you on killing off Montgomery and bringing in Gates. I was heartbroken about Montgomery anyway, but it seems likes Gates is just there to add conflict for the sake of conflict. I really hope they'll give her character some depth soon. I'm not saying they need to have an epiphany where she suddenly realizes that her team is wonderful and she'll magically love Castle. But I'd like to see them flesh out the character somewhat; otherwise, what's the point of her being more than an occasional extra? But I have faith in these writers, so I think they'll get there, even if it isn't as soon as I'd like.
By the way, I went back and looked up the third episode just because it was bugging me that I couldn't remember. It was the one with the head missing from the cryogenic storage facility. It wasn't a bad episode (and the worst Castle ep would still be miles better than almost anything else on TV), just not particularly memorable. I figured out who the murderer was the moment they were on-screen, and I'm still kind of bummed
