So I went for an interview today, they called me back an hour later, and want to hire me. I went to another interview last week, and they said they'd make their decision at the end of April. The first place (where I went today) wants me to come in on Friday morning to look at the contract and sign it. What should I do? Should I contact the ( Read more... )

Contact the other place. If they're your first choice they should know that. If they're not helpful then you probably don't want to work for them anyway.

Do you think it would be pushy? I don't want to come off as "OMG she's so annoying, and we haven't decided yet, so we'll just say no to make life easier and focus on the other potential candidates."

Also, if by some small miracle they do in fact want to hire me (which would not happen in a MILLION years...I don't even know how the hell I managed to get through the whole interview process in the first place), what do I say to the place who definitely wants to hire me?

This is complicated :o(

It's only a little bit pushy, and if they have any sense they'll realise that you're doing it because you want to work for them and that is a good thing.

If they do say yes, then you thank the other people and tell them you've decided to pursue an alternative. But you thank them for their time.

Also, what would be the appropriate thing to write in an e-mail when inquiring about my "status"? The following is a letter that a friend of mine wrote when she was in a similar situation:

"Dear soandso,

My name is blahblah, and I was one of the candidates that you interviewed last week on *date* for the position of blahblah. During the interview, you mentioned that you will have made a decision by the end of April, so I am just e-mailing you to inquire about the status. I have recently received an offer for another position, and I need to make a final decision very soon within the next few days. I am still very much enthusiastic about the position within your company, and would welcome the opportunity to join your team. I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know the results of your decision.

Thank you in advance, and I look forward to hearing from you."

**************

Should I write something like this? Any suggestions?

:o(((((((

Actually, that letter is exactly the sort of thing I was thinking. It's professional, and it's courteous, but it tells them that you need to know the decision by allowing them to know that you did receive an offer for another position, but you're still excited about that one.

Give it a shot, and as Sugar said, if they don't respond you probably don't want to work for them anyway.
