HR 163 was actually Democrat sponsored...gamma_knifeOctober 6 2004, 20:23:17 UTC
The fact is that the recent military draft bill (HR 163) was sponsored by Democrat Charles Rangel and cosponsored by Ernest Hollings as well as 14 other Democrats (including Jim McDermott and John Conyers). Rangel and Hollings actually voted AGAINST their own bill for fear of public reaction. The truth about a military draft is that it can only be enacted by congress and would have to be ratified by the President. Both Bush and Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld have repeatedly stated that he WOULD NOT call for or sign in a draft. Believe them or not they are consistent. The draft issue is a scare tactic that has been targeting college campuses for months now. So, if this is the issue that would most affect your vote then it would seem prudent to vote for Bush.
And, even more frightening, check out S89 being sponsored by Democrat Ernest Hollings (fortunately, to my knowledge, he has no sponsors as of yet...)
