The lack of utilitiy of utilitites

The new flat is the first time I'd moved in several years, so I though we'd make a fresh start of things with regards to utilities.

Actually, that's not true. I wanted to keep things as they were, since they were doing fine, but reality got in the way of that.

re: landline. mobile calls here are 10x the cost of landline-to-landline. Now work pays for my mobile (up to a Y maximum) and there aren't that many people I make long calls to.
But I can see how for many, a lineline would be a very necessary savings, so useful for more than the marketdroids

Mobile calls should be more expensive than landlines, but BT is very greedy and was the reason mobile phones in the UK flourished. BT charged what they thought they could get away with, and mobile carriers could change anything they wanted, as long as it was less.
So even today it's just not cost effective at all to have a landline in the UK if you have a mobile as well. So, I just figured if it just helps a little bit to put BT out of business, it's worth doing.
