Aging

What a beautiful weekend.  So glad my family was up to enjoy it with me.

But right now, I'm being haunted by a verse from a Donald Justice poem I read in a short story:

Men at forty
Learn to close softly
The doors to rooms they will not be
Coming back to.

I'm not 40, but that simple little verse is doing a brilliant job evoking sadness, for me at least.

*sighs*

I've been thinking about death a lot lately. More and more I realize how incredibly sad it is (especially for an atheist). I mean, not that (assuming my view is correct) it's not sad for everyone, but those who have different views at least have a different approach to it, you know?

Anyway, great (sad) verse.

Good point. Although I'm still holding onto a vague hope that reincarnation has some truth. 'Cause seriously, how cool could that be?

Mostly for me, those doors closing was what did it. The idea of knowing you can't do something you were once able to is depressing.

But... it's Independence Day tomorrow, so no more sad verses. :P
Have a good one!
