But... you means he graduated from university at the age 18? He didn't go to high school or something? I'm really confused.

Unfortunately, I'm not well-versed in mainland China's educational system. From what little I know, pending on what kind of high school he went to, it's entirely possible that he attended both high school and university. The university age requirement is 16 years of age and there are specialized high schools where one learns for two years before moving onto university. I don't know any other information about his previous schools, or what year he entered university so it's only an assumption that he probably went to one of those specialized schools.

Going to university early isn't terribly uncommon, I think. Maybe now it is (though my mom keeps reading out articles about people under twenty doing all sorts of amazing things at Qinghua and BeiDa), but I know like, my dad went to university when he was fifteen. And he's not that old. XD
