google tells me that dogs take about a week to start going into heat, a week of being in heat, and then another week to go out of heat. So three weeks-ish total. sounds like fun! I had a friend growing up whose dogs was intact and she had to wear shorts (with a tail hole cut in the back!) around the house while in heat (on account of that random blood).
