I've only heard this lament for home from people who live in New England, the Maritimes or Newfoundland...

For me, it's my beloved Green Mountains and the Taconics and being nestled safe, snug. Wrapped in a geologic grand-mère's embrace... The Rockies are pretty and they're nice to visit, but they're too damn young. They're wild and rebellious teenage mountains that haven't weathered through even half an eon.

One of my favourite, favourite song lyrics is:
My thoughts are always with you,
Have you changed since I've been gone?
O how I long to see you,
the time has been so long.
If I could get just one more day to walk your rugged shores,

I think, too, that it was more a lament for everything lost.

Your descriptions of your home and the place where you live, the vast differences...they're beautiful too.
