Loved the book! I read it back when it first came out but I didn't appreciate it as much as I do now. I even laughed out loud in a few places. My favorite parts were the footnotes and the very creative ways of introducing the four horsemen. "Famine" was my favorite. And as an Iowan, I was impressed that Des Moines made the book not once, but twice. :-)
I quite enjoyed this book. The situation is silly and the characters are a hoot, particularly Crowley, Aziraphale and Witchfinder Sergeant Shadwell. I thought I'd have trouble with the subject matter--I'm not so keen on Christian ridicule--but this book was good-natured rather than mean-spirited. It's even rather amusing that I've essentially called Good Omens a good-natured book about the end of the world.
I like the book, although I don't think it's either Gaiman's best or Pratchett's best.
One of the things I do like about it is that it seems a really successful collaboration. You can find hints of each author's style. It feels as if they each brought something to it.
I adore the book as an old friend which I've read many times. I'm not sure of any of the books we suggested were exactly what was meant by humourous literature, but they all fit and Good Omens does as much as any. It genuinely makes me laugh at points (the horsemen are definitely a big part of that)!z
